Farnley Census Returns 1921

The census of 1921 was supposed to be taken on April 25th, but was delayed until 19th June due to disruption and unrest caused by the miners` lockout and the following strikes (Black Friday), which meant that many Farnley citizens were suspended or out of work. The census had five Enumeration Districts containg 4027 inhabitants. Of the working population (2237), 217 declared themselves to be out of work (9.7%), though many may not have declared their situation. Excluding children and non-workers, ED 20 has the greatest percentage of unemployed by far (19.9%), so it may be that that Enumerator insisted they enter themselves as out of work if that was the case.

This census format dropped some items but added a few more columns with the AGE being split to YEARS and MONTHS. New columns were added for EMPLOYER and EMPLOYER`S ADDRESS

All Enumeration Districts are available.
